Project for the proper disposal of plastic at the headquartersThe first phase of monitoring of separate collection inside the offices has begun; initiatives for the disposal of plastic waste at source will follow.
Replacement of office printers with more efficient models and consequent reduction in toner consumption and related wasteIn 2018, all printers in Italian offices and directly managed stores have been replaced by new, high performance all-in-one devices for printing, scanning and photocopying. The new devices ensure the quality of print-outs and the ability to print on any device in the network, while delivering major reductions in the consumption of energy and consumables (paper and toner). Consumption reduction estimate: -5% in 2018
Indirect energy GHG emissions reductionElectricity consumption declined constantly over the three-year period: the approximately 23% drop in consumption between 2016 and 2018 in Italy was in part due to the closure of some Group sites, and in part to energy saving initiatives implemented over the year; while less than in Italy, Mondadori France also saw its electricity consumption fall in 2018: from 2,794 MWh in the prior year to 2,619 MWh (-6%). The drop in consumption was largely driven by measures introduced as of 2015 to reduce electricity consumption.
Calculation of emissions before and after the Group’s activitiesSince 2015, an estimate of emissions related to the logistics of publications (primary transport) has been made, with the intention of expanding the scope of reporting on the supply chain with regard to the production of paper books and magazines
Creation of a company policy for waste separation and greater awareness by employees, establishment of a database for the collection of information on waste, and definition of a procedure for the management of waste generated by maintenanceMonitoring of waste management is currently in effect at the Segrate location; possible solutions to expand the scope are being examined
