Born in Milan in 1962, Ainio is one of the Internet pioneers in Italy.
He begins his career in 1981 at his father’s company, Centro Media, the first media company on the Italian market. In 1993, he leaves the advertising world to spend time in the United States, where he sees the birth of the Internet.
In 1995, he founds Matrix, within which Virgilio is created, the first and most important Italian portal. He is member of the Board of Directors of Seat pagine Gialle S.p.A. from 1997 to 2002 and of Lottomatica S.p.A. from 2002 to 2007.
In 2007, he founds Banzai, first Italian e-commerce operator with the brands ePrice and Saldiprivati, of which he is executive chairman.
Paolo Ainio has been non-executive director of the Board of Directors of Arnoldo Mondadori Editore S.p.A. since July 2016.
He is also Chairman of Im3D S.p.A., company that works on the development and management of innovative high-tech solutions in medical imaging for the prevention of tumours.
