The Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) is a scheme for certifying the sustainable management of forests. PEFC is an international initiative based on a broad agreement among the parties concerned to implement sustainable forest management at national and regional level. The parties involved in developing the PEFC include representatives of forest owners and poplar plantations, end consumers, users, professionals, and the timber and craft industries. Its aims include improving the image of forestry and the timber production chain, providing a marketing tool that facilitates the sale of timber and forestry products from sustainably managed forests and production plants.
