Beginnings

1907
Arnoldo Mondadori, just eighteen years old, begins his publishing career with the newspaper Luce!

1911
Arnoldo Mondadori publishes his first book, Aia Madama by Tomaso Monicelli, and the first series dedicated to children's literature.

1912
In Ostiglia, Arnoldo Mondadori founds the "La Sociale", the first component of the future "La Sociale" Printing Plant of A. Mondadori e C. During the first years of business, the company specialised in producing school textbooks, which it continued to develop up until the introduction by Mussolini of the unified "state textbook" for elementary schools.

1915-1918
During the First World War, the publishing house does not interrupt its business activities but works intensely at publishing numerous magazines destined for the troops at the front. The most notable titles are La Ghirba and La Tradotta, and they include contributions from many famous authors and painters, such as Soffici, De Chirico and Carrą.

1919
This was the decisive moment for consolidating the young publishing house. Arnoldo Mondadori transfers the editorial staff to Milan, where the main publishing houses of the time, such as Sonzogno and Treves, have their headquarters, and opens a printing plant in San Nazaro in Verona.
