A Century Of History

Giulio Einaudi Editore

Social commitment, an appetite for the new and literary quality continue to be the characteristics that define the Einaudi brand. Italy's third-largest publisher, with a market share of 5.4%, Einaudi continues to confirm both the excellence of its editorial approach and its commercial strength by valorising its catalogue, pursuing a focused author policy and being constantly on the look-out for new work of quality.

In this way, foreign fiction has reaffirmed its importance with universally acknowledged writers such as Philip Roth, Ian McEwan, Orhan Pamuk and Cormac McCarthy; alongside new talents such as Mohsin Hamid and the extraordinary literary phenomenon Jonathan Littell.
At the same time, in Italian fiction, new and strong voices have emerged, from Mariolina Venezia, winner of the 2007 Premio Campiello, and Vincenzo Rabito; together with authors that continue to prove popular with readers, Nico Orengo and the recent work of Diego De Silva and Andrea Bajani.

Similarly, the Stile libero series has based its commercial success on the search for challenging writers such as Fred Vargas and Giancarlo De Cataldo, as well as the narrative talents of Wu Ming, Massimo Carlotto, Francesco Abate and Jason Goodwin.

2007 was also a good year for non-fiction, with the stimulating essay by Aldo Schiavone, Vele, panoramic overviews from the Classical world to contemporary society; in works by Robin Lane Fox, Gian Luigi Beccaria and Stefano Bartezzaghi; an important work dedicated to maths, La matematica edited by Claudio Bartocci and Piergiorgio Odifreddi, a unique example of its kind in world publishing, as well as the brilliant biography of Padre Pio by Sergio Luzzatto, published in the Einaudi Storia series. Finally, there was also a positive performance by ET Einaudi Tascabili, expanded with the inclusion of the new Geografie series, the first titles of which were dedicated to London, written by Roberto Bertinetti, Lisbon with the narrative talent of Fernando Pessoa and Egypt, under the expert guidance of Alessandro Bongioanni.
