The Mondadori Group entered the radio sector in January 2005 with the acquisition of Radio 101 One-O-One, a national radio network with a 30-year history of success and Italy's first commercial broadcaster. The project to revive the radio station involved:
2008 saw the launch of 5 thematic web radio channels (dedicated to the biggest hits of the '70s,'80s,'90s,'00s and a selection of the best pop music of the last 40 years), available on the radio’s web site and on the latest smartphones thanks to dedicated applications. In the digital area, R101 is also present on the leading social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, FriendFeed and YouTube with official fan pages and proprietary channels, key tools for daily communication with its wide audience. The site, which has recently been enhanced with a new webTV channel offering the radio’s entire video production, maintains a significant level of traffic (with over 250,000 unique visitors and around 3 million page views per month).
Recent years have also seen increased distribution of the radio’s signal around Italy thanks to the acquisition of frequencies. This has brought its coverage of the Italian population to more than 90% at the end of 2008 from 56% initially.
Monradio works constantly to create a radio station that is perfectly integrated with the activities of the publishing house and to exploit synergies with other areas and companies in the Group.
