Mondadori’s book division is the market leader in Italy, with a 27% share in 2013. Traditionally the company's core business is composed of works of fiction and non-fiction, paperbacks and children's books.

The Group is also active in educational publishing, art books, the management of museum concessions and the organisation and management of exhibitions.
Mondadori Education is an important player in the school textbook market in Italy while Mondadori Electa is the country’s biggest publishing company for art and illustrated books. Mondadori also operates outside of Italy.
Mondadori entered the eBook market in 2010 with three separate initiatives: in June the Group’s online bookstore, Bol.it, launched its dedicated digital books store, with an extensive catalogue of titles in Italian and English. Later in the year at the Frankfurt Book Fair, Mondadori launched its first eBook catalogue, making 800 back list titles and more than 400 new Mondadori, Einaudi, Piemme and Sperling & Kupfer titles available in a digital format.
The first stores to be launched on the market were Bibletstore, Bol and Bookrepublic; and there are now nine operating in Italy where the group’s titles can be found. In December Mondadori signed an agreement for the distribution of the books published by the various publishing houses of the Group through Google Books and Google eBooks.
The development strategy in this sector continued in 2011 with the simultaneous publication, in other words in print and digital, of all of the leading new titles on the imprints in the trade books segment and with an agreement, signed in July, with Amazon for the distribution in Europe of the more than 2,000 title sin the Mondadori eBook catalogue and future new titles through the Kindle stores of the Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de and Amazon.com sites.
